Domenica 7 ottobre un gruppo di persone solidali ha partecipato al presidio di fronte al CPR di Ponte Galeria per portare solidarietà alle donne rinchiuse all’interno.
Nella cornice della Fiera di Roma dove si stava svolgendo il Romics (la fiera del fumetto), centinaia di persone sono passate accanto alle mura di un lager senza conoscere e interessarsi della reclusione forzata di donne che, per il fatto di non possedere una carta che ne legittimi la presenza sul suolo italiano, sono state rapite dalla loro vita quotidiana, il lavoro, gli affetti, le speranze di trovare una nuova vita altrove.
In continuità con i governi passati, presenti e futuri, la politica dell’oppressione colpisce gli elementi più deboli, le persone appena arrivate dopo viaggi pericolosi in mare o le lavoratrici residenti in italia da anni, sfruttate dal padrone, in fuga delle violenze di un compagno, ricattate per il permesso di soggiorno. All’interno dei CPR la reclusione si vuole estendere dagli attuali 90 a 180 giorni, raddoppiando così l’isolamento e la sofferenza dell’attesa di una decisione che potrebbe ricondurre la loro esistenza al punto di partenza.
Accanto, nella sezione maschile, ormai chiusa da tre anni grazie alle rivolte di chi vi era recluso, proseguono i lavori di ristrutturazione.
Durante il presidio numerosi cori, musica e interventi dal microfono hanno cercato di mettere in contatto i/le solidali all’esterno con le donne all’interno. Quest’ultime si sono fatte sentire prima con saluti, poi richiedendo il numero di telefono con cui è stato possibile comunicare e ricevere notizie più dettagliate.
Le donne si sono passate il telefono permettendoci di parlare con molte di loro.
Al momento ci sono circa 80 recluse di diverse nazionalità. Molte di loro si trovano da tanti anni in Italia, alcune ci sono nate, hanno qui famiglia e affetti, la loro vita.
I racconti che giungono da dentro sono già tristemente noti: cibo che fa schifo, continui malesseri, medici che rispondono alle loro richieste somministrando farmaci a caso, impossibilità di parlare con i familiari, avvocati che prendono tanti soldi per non fare nulla, le menzogne degli operatori, che hanno provato a nascondere alle donne la nostra presenza lì fuori raccontando che le grida che sentivano venivano da un campetto di basket!
Nonostante i continui tentativi di infantilizzarle e trattarle da ingenue, le donne comprendono benissimo l’ingiustizia di uno stato razzista che le imprigiona, le sottrae per mesi ai propri cari con l’intento di costringerle a tornare nei propri Paesi d’origine, che a malapena conoscono, da cui mancano da anni e che, evidentemente, hanno scelto di lasciare. Così come hanno capito che eravamo lì per loro ed è stata grande la gioia che ci hanno manifestato, e lo è altrettanto la nostra ogni volta che riusciamo a sentire le loro voci oltre quelle alte e pesanti mura.
Restiamo accanto a chi lotta in ogni prigione.

On Sunday, 7th October, a group of people took part to a demonstration in front of the CPR of Ponte Galeria to bring solidarity to the women locked up inside.
Close to the detention center the “Romics” (the comic art fair) was going on, hundreds of people walked by the walls of a prison camp without knowing and without any interest about the forced reclusion of dozens of women.
Women who don’t have a paper that legitimise their existence on the italian territory and therefore have been kidnapped from their daily lives, their jobs, beloved and hopes to find a new life elsewhere.
As in previous, current and future governments the politics of oppression strikes the weakest: people just arrived after dangerous sea journeys, workers who have been living in italy for years, women running away from partner’s violence, people exploited from employers or shaked down for the residence permit.
The brand new government want to extend the time of detention from the current 90 days to 180, so doubling the suffering and isolation of whom are waiting for a decision that could bring their life to the starting point.
Nearby, in the now closed male section the renovation work is ongoing, the area has been set on fire during a protest three years ago.
The demo tried to reach the women inside throug numerous chants, music and speeches. The women inside answered back with forceful shouts, asking again the number which gave us the chance to take contact and have some more detailed news.
We’ve had the opportunity to speak with lot of them. There are 80 inmates at the moment, from different nationalities. Lots among them have been living in Italy for years, some are born in here, and here they have their families and loved ones.
The stories coming from inside are already sadly known: the food sucks, numerous ills, doctors who answer their needs giving random pills, the impossibility to speak with relatives, lawyers asking a lot money to do nothing, the workers lies, who had tried to hide our presence outside by saying to them that those chants were coming from the basket court.
Despite the continuos attempts by CPR’s workers to treat them like kids, women completely understand the unfair of their situation, imprisoned for months by a racist Government who keeps them away from their families, forcing them to leave Italy to make return to their home countries. Countries they barely know and where they clearly don’t want to return. They also know demonstrators were there to support them and with great excitement they screamed from behind the walls.
Every time their voices find the way to reach us from those heavy walls we feel not so far apart.
